Cross Cut Sled

While it would be a lie to say “I Promised Myself” I’d make a cross-cut sled this year. I DID wake up this morning fairly annoyed that I didn’t have one. And today being one of those days where I have the generic overwhelming feeling that I ought to be somehow productive, I went downstairs to make one.

I’m pretty happy with the results, though I think I CAN do better.

This is accurate to within 0.004″ over about 16″. That’s pretty good, far better than anything I’m likely to use it for. Plus, it was made entirely from materials on hand, so if I end up making another one from scratch…meh, that’d be ok.

New Cross-Cut sled.

New Cross-Cut sled.

But now my hands are blistered and hurt like hell. So I’m not going back down to the shop.

I added a cover to the front of mine over the blade and a stop so that the sled can’t travel far enough to allow the blade to come through the safety cover. Easy to lose sightof the blade and ose a finger doing production amounts of cross cutting.
