Committees
I hate committees
I hate everything about them
They are the pure distillate of the very essence of counter productivity.
These “voluntary” committees and subcommittees are the worst. I’m sitting on mute (I know right? How weird is that?) on a conference call for such a subcommittee. It’s KILLING me.
This is what comes to mind when people outside of a cube farm think of what it must be like in corporate America.
Dilbert is an understatement.
UPDATE: The meeting ran almost a full hour and a half. It’s contents could have been accomplished with one full round of email. I hung up 10 minutes in to the discussion on how often we should have these discussions. For all I know they’re still talking about it.
Yet Another UPDATE: In “post-mortem”ing this meeting back and forth with my manager it occurred to me what the fundamental problem was. There’s a uniform lack of trust in that environment. Because of that there was also a supreme lack of initiative. I wanted to scream “Who’s smart? You? Are you smart? Ok, do this and get back to us. If you don’t have the time I’ll do it.” But instead there were bundles of action items and “homework assignments” for people to come up with ideas and shop them around again to the committee members for approvals and addendums. It was insane.
I don’t belong in this.
